Your logo is probably the first thing that prospective client will see. The logo is an important part of branding and needs to convey the proper message about a business.
There are three basic types of logos:
Text logos
Mark or symbol logos
A combination of the two
Michelle Mercer Photography is a combination logo of text and a symbol of my two initials.
I have played around with several different logos and colours. I studied fashion magazines and looked at advertising. What I discovered was the most high-end fashion brands keep it very minimal and clean, using either a kind of mark simple (apple, channel) or text only logos (DKNY, Michael Kors)
When looking I came to following conclusions;
Make sure that the logo can be scaled up and down
Colour is important and should be consistent
The style needs to match
Typography matters
Need to be easily recognisable
So now comes the moment to design my logo! from all my research into my brand I feel that it is vital to understand who my clients are, and the personality and voice I present as a business. My personality needs to be translated and infused throughout by branding. Mordern, vintage, timeless, sophisticated, fun, and so on
I started by answering some simple questions:
What emotions do my clients experience when enjoying your product?
I want my clients to say "oh wow", to fall in love with their portraits.
What is my personality?
I am fun, approachable and a perfectionist.
How would I describe my brand?
Elegant, timeless sophisticated, affordable, high-end, fun (vintage and modern are very "on-trend" at the moment so i am trying to stay away from those at the moment.
